April 16, 2005

Results

Lewisburg, Pa - Duquesne University's men's outdoor track team grabbed two first place finishes at this weekend's Bucknell Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Dukes, who were simulataneously competing at the University of Virginia's Lou Onesty / Milton G. Abramson Invitational, set three new school distance marks at this event.

Junior Gary Malinko set a new school record with a time of 3:50.57 in the 1,500 meter run invitational. This broke his previous Duquesne best of 3:51.69 set last season at the IC4A Championships.

Two Dukes broke senior Ryan Bender's school 5,000 meter run record of 14:54.11 that he set last season at this same Bucknell meet. Bender finished eighth with a time of 14:37.35 while sophomore Chris Horvat's sixth place mark of 14:28.51 is Duquesne's new standard.

Freshman Tom Slosky won the gold in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a 9:13.22 result. This broke Pat McGuire's previous Duquesne record of 9:13.82 which was set in April 2003.

The Red and Blue's other first place result was recorded by the 4 x 800 meter relay team (Ed Guelfi, Zack Dorman, E.J. Robertson and Malinko) with a time of 7:44.65, a little more than a half second off the school mark of 7:44.01.
