Men's Track & Field Breaks Two School Records in Finishing Second at Bucknell Team Challenge

Duquesne's men's track and field team broke two school records and captured 13 top three finishes, including six first place showings in finishing second at the seven team Bucknell Team Challenge Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa.
Ian Welch set his second school record of the year and set a new Atlantic 10 Conference record by finishing first in the long jump with an IC4A qualifying distance of 24.10.00. Kyle Trinch also set a new DU standard with a 15.25 showing in the 100 meter hurdles. In addition, Trinch won the 400 hurdles in 54.25.
Welch also placed first in the triple jump with an IC4A qualifying leap of 48-01.25, while Evan Gomez won the 3,000-meter steeplechase by nearly 22 seconds with an IC4A qualifying time of 9:11.39.
Other exceptional performances were turned in by Christian Kazanjian who won the 3,000 meter race with a time of 8:50.83, Shakeil Carter who placed second in the 100 meter dash in 10.90 and Jared Horne who captured second in the long jump with a distance of 22-09.00.
In addition, the 4x100 relay qualified for IC4A's with a first place time of 42.11 and the 4x400 relay placed second with a time of 3:23.80.
The Dukes return to action next weekend as they compete in the Penn Relays, April 23-25.
