Ryan Bender Hits Personal Best At Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa. - Duquesne senior Ryan Bender set a personal best time in the 5,000 meter run Thursday night at the Penn Relays.

Bender finished the Olympic Development 5,000 Meter Run in 14:28.99, good for 15th place in the 54-runner competition. This was less than a half-second shy of the school record (14:28.51) set by sophomore Chris Horvat at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic earlier this month. Horvat crossed the wire in 18th place with a mark of 14:30.47.

A couple Dukes also competed in the Olympic Development 3,000 Meter Steeplechase. Freshman Tom Slosky finished 10th with a time of 9:15.32 while senior Pat McGuire was 11th of 23 runners at 9:16.36.

Competition continues on Friday and Satursday, April 29 and 30, 2005.
