Dukes 2nd After First Day of A-10 Men's Track & Field Champs

Charlotte, N.C. - Duquesne University's men's outdoor track & field team is in second place after the first day of competition in the 2007 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on the campus of University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Duquesne, with 56 points, trails Rhode Island, which has won five of the last six titles. Eleven (11) teams are competing this year.
Senior Mike Murawski leads the decathlon after five events with 3,535 points. Murawski also took third in the high jump.
Sophomore Josh Eddy set a new Belk Track record with a winning time of 30:41.94 in the 10,000 meter run. Senior Chris Horvat and sophomore Shane Sarver took fourth and fifth places, respectively. The trio collected 19 points for the Red and Blue.
Junior Tom Slosky (9:06.45), the two-time defending champion in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, was edged by sophomore Derek Dutille (9:06.25) by a fifth of a second. Both were NCAA qualifying times. The Dukes 1-2 result yielded 18 points.
The second and final day of competition begins at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2007. The decathlon is the first event on the schedule.
