Dukes Take 4th Place at A-10 Men's Track & Field Champs

Charlotte, N.C. - Duquesne University's men's outdoor track & field team captured fourth place at the two-day, 11-team 2007 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on the campus of University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The Dukes were fifth in 2006.
DU's total of 83 was 18 points in front of fifth-place Temple. The Dukes won two events: sophomore Josh Eddy set a new Belk Track record with a winning time of 30:41.94 in the 10,000 meter run and sophomore Derek Dutille (9:06.25) edged teammate and two-time champion junior Tom Slosky (9:06.45) by a fifth of a second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Slosky also won points in the 1,500 and 5,000 meter races.
Senior Mike Murawski, who finished third in the high jump, took second in the decathlon with 6140 points, just 31 shy of the winner, Fordham's Matthew Spaccarelli, and 314 points ahead of third-place Adam Hegal from Temple.
Rhode Island took the championship for the sixth time in the last seven league tournaments, winning by 81 points over defending champion Charlotte.
Duquesne next competes in the three-day ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships, beginning on Friday, May 11, 2007, in Princeton, N.J.
