Dukes Take Fourth at A-10 Championship

FAIRFAX, Va. - The Duquesne men's track and field team posted a fourth-place finish at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship on Saturday and Sunday at George Mason Stadium. 

The Dukes, who recorded three medal-winning performances, tallied 70 points across the two-day event in Fairfax, Va. Rhode Island claimed the title with 216.5 points while host George Mason placed second with 172.5 points and VCU finished third with 93 points. 

Freshman Isaac Elliott (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) became the first Duquesne men's track and field athlete to garner A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer honors after earning a silver medal in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.71 to go with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash at 21.61. 

The Dukes' 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Elliott, freshman Andrew George (Louisville, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) as well as seniors Robert Norman (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and David O'Such (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) won gold in the event with a school-record time of 40.66. This marked the first-ever title for a Duquesne relay team at the A-10 Championship in program history. 

Junior Preston Hogue (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) claimed a silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles for the Dukes, crossing the finish line in 53.24. Sophomore Kenny Baurle (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) added a fifth-place mark in the race at 54.83. 

Duquesne's 4x400-meter relay team with Elliott, O'Such, Hogue and Baurle placed fourth in the event with a school-record time of 3:13.42. 

In addition, O'Such collected a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 200-meter dash (22.00) and 400-meter dash (47.78) for the Dukes. 

Rounding out the top track finishes for Duquesne on Sunday is senior Rico Galassi (Dickson City, Pa./Holy Cross), who placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:46.01. 

In Sunday's field events, junior Brandon Stanback (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) finished fourth in the triple jump at 14.61 meters followed by sophomore Alex Long (Waymart, Pa./Western Wayne) in fifth at 14.49 meters. 

Freshman Tyler Bishop (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) registered a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 15.00 meters while senior Matt Dombrowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) placed seventh at 14.70 meters for the Dukes. 

Duquesne returns to action with the 2018 ECAC Championship next weekend in Princeton, N.J.
