Dukes Lead Atlantic 10 Championship After 1st Day

Richmond, Va. - Duquesne University's men's outdoor track and field team is in first place after the first day of the 2005 Atlantic 10 Track & Field Championships at Richmond's Sports Backer Stadium. With 72 points, DU leads La Salle by one with defending champion URI third at 70.

Dukes' freshman Tom Slosky won the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:08.73) while sophomore Mike Murawski captured the high jump (6-8 ¼) and junior Chuck Mohan tallied a winning mark of 183-11 in the hammer throw.

Massachusetts is in fourth place with 29 points, followed by Temple (25.5), Richmond (21.5), Saint Joseph's (14), and Fordham (8). Xavier did not score in the opening day of competition.

Day two of this tournament begins at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 8th.
