Charlotte, North Carolina - Duquesne University's men's team finished in fifth place at this weekend's 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Center in Charlotte.

Senior Bob Healy (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) and sophomore Tom Slosky (Brackenridge, PA / Highlands) each qualified for the NCAA regionals by winning their league event. Seniors Kevin Borelli (Dickson City, PA / Mid-Valley) and Gary Malinko (Old Forge, PA / Scranton Prep) met the 2006 IC4A standards while Malinko and DU's 800 meter relay quartet set new Duquesne records.

Slosky's 9:04.17 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase also exceeded the NCAA standard of 9:07.00. Healy's toss in the shot put was 14.37 meters.

Borrelli, whose time of 31:02.17 in the 10,000 meter race, and Malinko, with a mark of 1:53.44 in the 800 meter run, gave each a ticket to IC4A three-day competition next weekend in Princeton, N.J.

Malinko also set a new school mark in the 1500 meter race. His time of 1:53.44 eclipsed his own record of 1:53.52, set at the 2004 Altantic 10 Championships.

The 800 meter relay record had been set last season by current seniors Zack Dorman and Malinko and juniors Ed Guelfi (Long Beach, WA / New Mexico Military Inst) and E.J. Robertson (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny) at the Penn Relays. Their time in Philadelphia had been 7:36.57. This weekend, Duquesne finshed the competition in 7:34.72.

Charlotte, which also won Atlantic 10 championships this weekend in golf and women's track and field, topped Richmond, 205-176.

Mike DiDio of Saint Joseph's was named the A-10 Most Outstanding Track Performer and Rhode Island's Ryan McCarthy received the field award. The Most Outstanding Rookie Performer is Dayton's Amy Kremer. Charlotte's Chase Eckard was cited as the Most Outstanding Rookie. Eckerd's coach Bob Olesen is the men's, and the women's, A-10 coach of the year.
