Jim Spisak and Mike Stolar Qualify for NCAA's

Sophomore Jim Spisak placed fourth of 36 runners in the 5,000 meter run at the IC4A Championship with a school record time of 14:04.26 and qualified to compete in the 2011 NCAA Track & Field Championship - East Preliminary to be held May 26-28 in Bloomington, Ind. He will join senior Mike Stolar who qualified for NCAA's in the 10,000 meter run with his time of 29:59.09 at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
This marks the second time in school history that two Dukes qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the same season. Previous NCAA qualifiers include Tom Slosky who qualified in the steeplechase three times from 2006-08 and Derek Dutille who qualified in the steeplechase in 2008 and 2009.
Following the NCAA rule change in 2010, the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Championships are made up of two Regional sites, East (Bloomington, Ind.) and West (Eugene, Ore.). The top 12 finishers at both sites will advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake Stadium June 8-11.
In other action at IC4A's, Paul Blinn placed 10th of 37 runners in the 100 meter dash in 10.82, Cam Stauffer finished 17th in the steeplechase in a career best time of 9:11.74, Mark Bucklaw placed 21st in the 1,500 meter run in 3:54.68 and Vibert Defreitas placed 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 22-04.50.
The Dukes also had three relays compete as the 4x800 placed ninth in 7:41.77, the 4x400 finished 12th in 3:15.63 and 4x100 placed 20th in 42.49.
