Two Dukes Named Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team

Two Duquesne student-athletes have been named to the 2003 Atlantic 10 Men's Track & Field Academic All-Conference Team, the league office announced Wednesday. Junior Pat McGuire (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and sophomore Ryan Bender (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) were named to the conference's 10-member squad.

McGuire set a new Duquesne record and qualified for the IC4A championship with his time of 9:13.82 in the 3,000m steeplechase at this year's A-10 meet. He also helped establish a new

school mark as a member of the 4 x 1500 relay and was one of the Dukes top competitors during the cross country season. McGuire has a 3.62 GPA in secondary education/math and is a member of the Dean's List, Director of Athletics Honor Roll and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Bender placed fifth in the 5,000 meter at the Atlantic 10 outdoor championships, an event he holds the Duquesne record in. He was a two-time A-10 Performer of the Week and was 10th overall at the A-10 cross country championship. Bender was tabbed a cross country Academic All-Conference selection and is a member of the Dean's List, Director of Athletics Honor Roll and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He boasts a 3.98 GPA in pharmacy.
