Alex Federinko Named Academic All-American

Duquesne University senior track & field athlete Alex Federinko (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Federinko, an accounting major with a 3.99 cumulative grade point average, was the valedictorian of Duquesne's Palumbo-Donahue School of Business. He finished fourth in the triple jump at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship with a personal best leap of 46-07.75 and placed 10th at A-10's in the long jump with a distance of 21-05.75.
A member of the Dean's List, A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Duquesne's Director of Athletics Honor Roll every semester, he also had a season best jump of 21-08.75 in the long jump at the Bucknell Team Challenge.
To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon on the national level. CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-America teams since 1952.
