Jim Spisak Named to Academic All-America First Team

Duquesne University track and field student-athlete Jim Spisak (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) has been named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. This marks the 55th time in school history a Duquesne student-athlete has achieved Academic All-America status. He is just the ninth first team honoree and the first since 2005.
Spisak, a graduate student, posted an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.76 in secondary education-social studies and has a perfect 4.00 GPA through one year of graduate school. Duquesne's 2013-14 Student Athlete of the Year, Spisak was a 2014 NCAA Championship qualifier in the 10,000 meter run after finishing second at the NCAA Regional.
A two-time Academic All-Conference honoree for both track and cross country, Spisak was the Atlantic 10 champion in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:34.14 as well as the A-10 champion in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 29:33.29. He set the school record in the 10,000 with a time of 29:02.09 at the 2014 Bennie Benson Invitational and also holds school records in the 1,500 meter run (3:48.01) and the 5,000 meter run (13:50.44).
In addition to his track & field accolades, Spisak was also a 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championship participant, a 2012 All-Region selection and a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference honoree (2010, 2011).
