The wrestling team split its first two dual matches of the season, bowing to Eastern Illinois, 32-21 and bouncing back to defeat Delaware State, 47-6 at the Palumbo Center. Eastern Illinois blanked Delaware State, 43-0 in the night's first match.

Junior Marc Allemang was the only Duke to wrestle to two victories with a 2-0 win over 15th ranked Peter Ziminski of Eastern Illinois and a win by fall in 0:43 seconds versus Delaware State. Freshman Brandon Baldini earned a win versus EIU with a pin in 2:40 and also captured a forfeit win while sophomore Keith Pavlekovsky collected two wins by forfeit.
