The Merle E. Gilliand Duquesne University Sports Hall of Fame will welcome three new members during ceremonies to be held Friday, Dec. 9. The 2011-12 inductees are Ryan Bender (cross country), Ginger Flocco (lacrosse) and Tony Zimmerman (football).

Duquesne men's cross country team finished third of 21 teams at the PSU Nationals, held Friday morning at State College, Pa. Junior Jim Spisak placed third of 189 runners with a time of 26:21.

Duquesne's men's cross country team finished 25th of 45 teams at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational held Sept. 30 at Lehigh. Senior Erik Anderson paced the Dukes in 103rd place of 402 runners with a time of 25:35. Junior Jim Spisak followed one second behind in 25:36.

Duquesne's men's cross country team improved its dual record to 7-0 with a 19-38 victory over Bucknell Saturday morning at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh. Junior Jim Spisak took first place in the 32-runner field with a time of 25:01 as the Dukes finished 1-2-3-5-8.

Duquesne's men's cross country, men's outdoor track and lacrosse programs all scored a perfect 1,000 for the 2009-10 academic year and 14 of DU's 16 athletics programs scored above the national average in its sport according to the latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) report released on May 24.

A total of 67 percent of the 353 student-athletes from Duquesne University have earned a spot on the Director of Athletics' Honor Roll for the end of the 2011 spring semester. To earn this distinction, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.0 grade point average for the semester.
