Men's XC Opens 2017 Slate with 4-0 Showing at Duquesne Duals

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne men's cross country team compiled a perfect record of 4-0 at the Duquesne Duals to open the 2017 season on Saturday morning at Schenley Park. The Dukes finish with an undefeated mark at the meet for the third consecutive season. 

Duquesne defeated Carnegie Mellon (17-40), Indiana (Pa.) (21-39), Pittsburgh (27-29) and Youngstown State (15-50) on the day. 

Reigning Atlantic 10 individual champion Rico Galassi (Dickson City, Pa./Holy Cross) led the Dukes with a third-place mark of 26:12.5. 

Junior Cordon Louco (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finished fourth (26:14.2) followed by sophomore Jeff Van Kooten (Sewickley, Pa./Central Catholic) in seventh (26:18.1).  

Freshman Mark Provenzo (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) placed eighth (26:21.5) in his collegiate debut
while junior Hunter Wharrey (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny)rounded out Duquesne's top-five in 13th place (26:31.4). 

The Dukes are back in action at the National Catholic meet hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET in South Bend, Ind.
