Record Number of Student-Athletes Selected for Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Atlantic10.com)— A record number of 1,759 Atlantic 10 Conference student-athletes were selected for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which recognized excellence in the classroom for the 2016 fall semester.
The league also set a record with average honorees per school at 125.6. Both marks are the best single-semester numbers of Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade’s tenure. The Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes in Atlantic 10-sponsored sports with a 3.5 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale) during the specified semester. Freshmen through seniors are eligible to receive the award.
The 1,759 student-athletes is the highest number to earn the award since 2007 when the honor roll was regularly compiled. The total surpassed the 1,698 set during the 2016 spring semester, and it marks the third straight semester student-athletes from the league’s 14 member institutions have bested the previous high-water mark.
In addition, the average of 125.6 student-athletes per institution that qualified for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, beating last semester’s record average of 121.3 honorees per institution.
Fordham had the most honorees with 166, followed by Massachusetts with 165, while George Mason had 145 student-athletes receive the recognition. Duquesne and Saint Louis tied for fourth most with 131. A complete list of honorees is included with this release.
