Cross Country Camp brochure
Duquesne University Cross Country Camp will be held at Schenley Park located in Pittsburgh
between Squirrel Hill and Oakland. Schenley Park offers a wide variety of training possibilities,
including grass, hills, rolling dirt trails, and a 400 meter track. This park can be used to accomplish
virtually any type of workout, and is utilized by Duquesne University athletes as well as athletes
at other universities in the area. Campers will meet each day near the Overlook. Shelter just
outside of the Schenley Oval.
Duquesne University Cross Country camp will be held from Monday July 24th through Thursday
July 27th. Camp hours will run from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm.
The Duquesne University Cross Country Camp will be held by the coaches and current athletes
at Duquesne University for any high school athletes with aspirations to continue running at
the collegiate level.
During this camp, runners will experience group runs on the trails with Duquesne athletes and
coaches. Water, Gatorade, fruit, and snacks such as granola bars, and will be provided after
each run. Talks and Q&A will be given by the Duquesne coaches on the following topics:
Coach Mengel -- The transition from high school to college life and key differences between training at the high school and collegiate level.
Coach Gibson -- The importance of rest, diet, and taking proper care of your body throughout the seasons and the things you can do to stay healthy.
Coach Slosky -- Supplementing your running with cross-training and the importance of mental preparation for workouts and races.
Coach Lear -- The commitment to running and to your teammates at the collegiate level; the differences in seasons, and variation among training groups.
This camp's purpose is to provide a fun experience for high school athletes interested in continuing their running careers at the collegiate level. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and share stories with fellow campers. To enroll in the Duquesne University Cross Country Camp, please fill out the information requested below and mail to the address on the back page with a check in the amount of $200 or enroll online.
