Cincinnati, Ohio - Duquesne University's women's basketball team dropped their second Atlantic 10 contest Sunday afternoon at Xavier, 80-61. Sophomore Loui Hall led the Red & Blue with 10 points while junior Nicole Sinclair pulled down nine rebounds.

Xavier took an early 5-0 lead which the Musketeers pushed up to 25-6 with 9:18 to go in the opening 20 mniutes. XU continued their hot hand, holding a 43-20 lead at the break.

The hosts maintained at least a 19-point second half edge with their highest margin at 30, 70-40, with 6:09 remaining. Duquesne put together a 9-1 run in the final 89 seconds led by freshman Jocelyn Chandler's seven points -- a jumper, a layup and a trey -- her entire output in the game.

Sophomore transfer Brittany Warren, averaging 2.8 ppg in her first six games, tallied her Duquesne-high of nine points to go along with two assists, three steals and one rebound. DU's leading scorer junior Aiga Bautre (16.6), who was held to eight points, tied Warren with two assists.

Xavier's Tara Boothe had game-highs of 21 points and four blocks while grabbing seven rebounds. Miranda Green scored 14 points and Suntana Granderson chipped in 12. Kristy Wallner hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds and tied Green with four assists.

The Dukes, who made just a quarter of their attempts in the opening 20 minutes (8-32), shot 32.4% for the game. Xavier hit 45.3 percent of their shots including 31.3% from three-point range. DU hit three of 14 attempts from beyond the arc (21.4%).

XU had a slight edge (45-42) on the boards while DU had 11 steals, two more than the Muskies. Both teams recorded five blocks and 16 turnovers but XU had 16 assists to Duquesne's seven.

 

 

With the loss, Duquesne slips to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic 10 action. XU improves to 8-5 on the season and remains perfect, 2-0, in league play.

The Dukes return to Pittsburgh to host La Salle (7-7, 1-2) on Thursday, Jan. 13th in a 7:05 pm tip. It's Alumni / Father-Daughter night.
