WASHINGTON - Chassidy Omogrosso's free throw with 3.1 seconds remaining broke a tie and gave Duquesne a 54-53 victory on Saturday afternoon. The game was televised nationally on CBS Sport Network.
Brianna Cummings scored 18 for GW (7-9, 2-2).
The 1st quarter was a one-possession game throughout and had a pair of ties and three lead changes. The team combined to miss the quarter's last 10 shots in the last three minutes. Duquesne hung on to a one points lead after 10 minutes.
After falling behind by a field goal with 7:56 left in the 2nd quarter, the Dukes scored the game's next seven points to take a 24-17 lead. Mei-Lyn Baustita and Cummings scored the final four points of the quarter to make the score 24-21 in Duquesne's favor heading into halftime.
A 7-0 run begging at the end of the 3rd quarter put the Dukes ahead by 10 points at 46-36 with 7:40 remaining in the 4th quarter. The lead would get as high as 12 points after a pair of foul shots by Lass made the score 51-39 with 5:16 remaining. However GW would go on a 14-2 run over the next 4:30 to tie the contest at 53-53 with 31.6 seconds remaining.
The Dukes had the ball with a 1.6 game/shot clock differential. Omogrosso drove to the hoop and was fouled with 3.1 seconds remaining. She made one of two shots to put Duquesne ahead by one.
After a GW timeout, the Colonials set their play, but Chyna Latimer's jumper did not fall as time expired.
