Dukes Win 4th-Straight with 74-60 Margin Over Bonnies

The Dukes women's basketball team won its fourth-straight to improve to 4-1 in the Atlantic 10 with a 74-60 victory over visiting St. Bonaventure (4-11, 0-4) Friday night at the Palumbo Center. Duquesne moves to 8-7 overall.
Candace Futrell (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) led all scorers with 26 points and tied the game and team lead with 10 rebounds to pace the Dukes. Nicole Sinclair (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) added 12 points and 10 boards while Shiri Sharon (Jordan Valley, Israel) and Aiga Bautre (Riga, Latvia) added 13 points each. Sharon tied the game lead with six assists. Stef Collins led the Bonnies with 18 points while Audrey Latendresse added 16 markers.
Duquesne opened the game strong hitting 16-striaght points and taking a 21-2 lead at the 11:10 mark. The Dukes hit five three-point goals over the span and held the Bonnies to 1-11 shooting from the field. St. Bonaventure hit a 9-0 run as the Dukes suffered a 4:07 scoring drought and got within a 17-26 reach at 5:06. Duquesne regrouped and used a 12-0 run to extend its lead to a 38-17 cushion and held a 43-19 lead at the half via a 17-2 run to end the frame.
The Dukes held at least a 20-point lead until a 15-3 SBU spree midway through the second half brought the Bonnies within a 50-62 reach at 7:10. During that run, the Dukes saw 4:17 of scoreless play. Sharon snapped the drought with a trey at 5:56 to up the Dukes' lead to 65-50. St. Bonaventure extended that run to 23-6 over a total of 9:08 to get within a 56-65 edge with 3:12 on the clock, but the Red & Blue closed out the game out-scoring the Bonnies 9-2 for the 74-60 final.
The Dukes shot .429 (25-56) for the game to the Bonnies .356 (21-59) and held a 39-34 rebounding edge.
Duquesne returns to play this Sunday traveling to Richmond for a 2:00 pm Atlantic 10 tip.
