PITTSBURGH - Chassidy Omogrosso scored a career-high 28 points to lead Duquesne to a 71-64 victory over George Mason on Sunday afternoon.
Julijana Vojinovic added 15 points and a game-high six assists. Kadri-Ann Lass scored 14, recorded eight rebounds, a season-high four assists and a game-high four blocks. Paige Cannon grabbed eight rebounds for the Dukes (16-3, 6-0 A-10) who improve to 9-0 at home.
Nicole Cardano-Hillary led Mason (15-5, 4-2 A-10) with 25. Natalie Butler recorded her nation-leading 19th double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Mason came out of the gates to open up a 13-3 lead at the 4:12 mark of the 1st quarter. The Dukes used a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 16-13 at 1:12 before Cardano-Hillary's layup closed out the scoring.
The Patriots extended their lead to 12 points at 7:19 of the 2nd quarter, holding Duquesne scoreless for the first 4:41. The closest the Dukes would get was six points at 1:12 before a pair of foul shots from Marika Korpinen made the score 34-26 at halftime.
Duquesne outscored Mason 20-13 in the 3rd, getting the deficit down to one point on Omogrosso's free throws with one second to play. Although they trailed 47-46, momentum was on their side.
The Dukes opened up the 4th quarter with four straight baskets - including Paige Cannon's which gave Duquesne just its second lead of the game at 9:28 - making the score 54-47. From there, the Dukes never looked back.
The teams were close in rebounds, with Duquesne holding a 38-33 edge. The Dukes had 19 points off Patriots turnovers and were 16-for-17 from the foul line.
Next up, Duquesne travels to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's (9-9, 4-2 A-10) on Wednesday night at 7PM.
