Women's Basketball Drops 61-55 Decision to St. Bonaventure

PITTSBURGH - St. Bonaventure's Katelyn Murray poured in 23 points including four 3-pointers as the Bonnies handed Duquesne a 61-55 loss Wednesday night at the Palumbo Center.
Alex Gensler scored 11 points for the Dukes who fell to 11-9 overall and 1-4 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Dana Mitchell added 16 for the Bonnies who improved to 15-5, 4-1.
For the third straight game, the Dukes dig themselves into an early hole, falling behind 16-2 in the game's first seven minutes. DU answered by scoring 12 consecutive points as an Eve Pyle 3-pointer trimmed the Bonnies lead to a bucket, 16-14 at the midway point of the first half.
SBU would build their lead back up to eight points after a Murray 3-pointer at the 5:01 mark. Duquesne would once again chip away at the Bonaventure lead as a pair of Samantha Thompson 3-pointers cut the deficit to two points with 95 seconds left in the half. The Bonnies' Andrea Doneth would close out the first half scoring to give the visitors a 30-26 lead going into halftime.
Dana Mitchell scored a quick basket 11 seconds into the second half before a 6-0 run capped by Rachel Frederick's behind the back pass to Gensler tied the contest at 32-32.
The game would see seven ties and nine lead changes over the next 13 minutes, included a 3-point Duquesne lead at the 9:33 mark.
With the score tied at 49-49, Mitchell's layup with 4:32 left gave St. Bonaventure a lead they would not rescind. The Dukes would not get closer than two points the rest of the game. DU missed six shots in the final 1:24 of regulation as Kristi Little's layup with one second left would be their only basket down the stretch.
Duquesne will have another difficult test Sunday afternoon when they host the Spiders of Richmond. The game will be nationally televised on CBS College Sports will tipoff at noon.
