PITTSBURGH -- Amadea Szamosi had a double-double (14 points,16 rebounds) and Chassidy Omogrosso scored a game-high 19 points as Duquesne (15-14, 8-8) closed the regular season with an 83-61 win over St. Bonaventure Tuesday night at the Palumbo Center.
Duquesne jumped on an early 8-0 run, sparked by a Brianna Thomas layup at the 8:54 mark. Bonaventure's Mariah Ruff hit a 3-pointer to put SBU on the board with 6:42 remaining and Matea Britvar's jumper with 5:57 left brought the Bonnies within three points. The Dukes went on to record a 7-0 run, extending their lead to 15-5 with 1:34 to go. Angela Staffileno's jumper in the final minute put Duquesne ahead 17-6. Omogrosso scored nine points in the quarter.
A Nina Aho 3-pointer gave Duquesne a 14-point advantage to start the quarter. The Dukes would go on to find a lead as large as 15 points, up 32-17 with 2:30 left. Sarah Hart's 3-pointer for SBU with two seconds to go made the score 34-23 heading into halftime.
Vojinovic's 3-pointer with 4:06 to go began a 7-0 run, lifting Duquesne to a 24-point lead at 61-37. The Dukes outscored Bonaventure 27-15 for the quarter.
The Dukes carried their momentum into the 4th quarter, shooting 57.1 percent from the field. Duquesne would find its largest lead of the game--up 25 twice--with 1:39 left from a Halle Bovell free throw and again with 49 seconds remaining off a Paige Cannon layup.
Duquesne will host the First Round of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship Saturday at 2 p.m. Opponent to be announced by the Conference Office.
