Duquesne's women's basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 60-52 win over Fordham (14-16) at Rhode Island's Ryan Center. Junior Candace Futrell scored a game-high 18 points and added three assists while senior Beth Friday and freshman Nicole Sinclair each netted 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the Dukes to the first round win.

The Rams jumped out to an 11-8 lead with 13:45 left in the first half and increased the lead to four, 20-16, with 7:44 remaining as Lara Hansen hit a three-pointer followed by a turn around jumper from Mobolaji Akiode. Duquesne cut the lead to two, 24-22, with 3:07 left in the half and the Rams would take a 26-24 lead at the break.

Duquesne opened the second half with a 5-2 spurt to take a 29-27 lead just over four minutes into the half. The Dukes increased their lead to five, 40-35, on a Futrell three-pointer with 11:15 remaining and maintained the five point lead, 44-39, with 7:01 left in the game. Fordham would score five straight points on a three-pointer from Beth Ann Dickinson and a lay-up from Ruff to tie the game at 44 with 5:46 left. Duquesne responded with a 6-0 run over the next 1:30 to take a 50-44 lead. Fordham pulled to within three, 51-48, with 3:09 remaining. With just over a minute left in the game, Dickinson pulled Fordham to within one, 53-52, but Friday's bucket with 35.5 seconds remaining followed by five free throws over the final 13 seconds secured the win.

Ruff led Fordham with 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for the Rams, her sixth double-double of the year and Stacey Price added 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocks of the Ram's nine blocks in the game.

The Dukes (15-13) face the #1 overall seed George Washington (21-6) at noon Friday in their third matchup of the year, the last a tough-fought 74-68 win by George Washington in Pittsburgh.
