PHILADELPHIA - The Duquesne women's basketball team advanced to the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinals after a 64-58 victory over VCU on Friday afternoon.

The A-10's leading scorer Robyn Parks had a game-high 23 points and Jessica Pellechio scored 14 for VCU whose season ends at 11-19.
Just before the under 16 media timeout, Szecsi's tip-in off a Floyd shot gave the Dukes an 11-9 lead. VCU would come back with an 11-2 run over the next seven minutes to take its largest lead of the game - eight points at 21-13 with 9:05 until halftime.
The Dukes would chip away at the lead and Szecsi's jumper with 26 seconds to play, regained the lead for Duquesne, 30-29 heading into halftime.
DU would open up the second half with a Robinson 3-pointer and back-to-back steals/layups from Vanessa Abel to that aided in a 10-2 run to take a 40-31 lead with 17:50 to play. But the Rams would respond with a 13-4 run to tie the game at 44-44 at the midway point of the half.
But the Dukes would not rescind the lead, as a Szecsi 3-pointer on the next possession put Duquesne up for the rest of the game. Szecsi iced the contest by making a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left.
"Even though we dug ourselves a hole early on, I was proud of the way our team kept its composure," said head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio. "We just chipped away one possession at a time."
"At this time of the year, we talk about how we need to make plays. And we did down the stretch."
The Dukes held VCU without a field goal for the game's last 2:09.
