Greenville, North Carolina - Duquesne University's women's basketball team dropped its 2004-05 opener to East Carolina by a 65-51 score Friday night at the Minges Coliseum. Junior Aiga Bautre led the Dukes with 16 points and classmate Maria Stankevich pulled down a game high nine rebounds.

Down 34-30 at the halftime break, Duquesne took a 36-35 lead on sophomore Loui Hall's jumper with 16:35 left to play. DU would regain the lead twice more, the final time, 39-38, on a Bautre jump shot with 12:12 to play. Two free throws less than 20 seconds later by the Pirates' Shanita Sutton gave ECU the lead for good as the Conference USA team put together a 21-7 run to ice the game.

Stankevich and freshman Jocelyn Chandler added nine points for the Dukes while Hall pulled down seven rebounds. Junior Nicole Sinclair tied for the game-high with four steals.

Jennifer Jackson led all scorers with 23 points and tied Keisha Anthony with a team-high eight rebounds.

East Carolina (1-0) was 23-54 from the field (42.6 percent) and 92.3 percent from the foul line (12/13). Duquesne was 36.7 percent from the floor and just 10 of 17 (58.8%) from the charity stripe.

Duquesne (0-1) heads to University Park, Pa. for a matchup with #23 Penn State (0-2) on Tuesday, November 23rd at 7:00 p.m.
