PITTSBURGH - Duquesne opened up its 2017-18 home schedule with a convincing 80-59 victory over Iona on Tuesday night. Nine different players scored, led by Chassidy Omogrosso's 19 points. Conor Richardson added 17 and Kadri-Ann Lass 13 in the win. Richardson and Libby Bazelak each had five assists.
The Dukes (3-2), who led for all but 28 seconds, dominated on the boards 46-42. Eniko Kuttor pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds.
Alexis Lewis led Iona (0-4) with 15 points.
Omogrosso's 3-pointer at the 7:28 mark of the 2nd half gave the Dukes its first double-digit lead of the game at 23-13. However, Iona would get within two points after a pair of Lewis field goals made the score 29-27 with 1:25 to go before halftime. The Dukes closed out the half with eight straight points on back-to-back 3-pointers from Omogrosso and Bazelak followed by a layup by Richardson that made the score 37-27.
Duquesne would maintain control and keep a double-digit lead for the final 11 minutes of the game. Anie-Pier Samson's 3-pointer with 1:57 remaining gave the Dukes' its largest lead of the game -- 22 points at 76-54.
The Dukes will travel to Charlottesville, Va. on Thursday to play a pair of games beginning with North Carolina A&T on Saturday and Virginia on Sunday.
