Women's Basketball Defeats Penn 78-45

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's basketball team exploded for 52 second half points to remain undefeated this season with their 78-45 victory over Penn Saturday afternoon at the Palumbo Center. With the win, the 4-0 Dukes extended their home winning streak to five games dating back to last season.
Four Dukes scored in double-figures, led by Amanda Peck who scored a team-best 15 points in just 13 minutes. Eve Pyle grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds and Jaclyn Babe had a career-best seven assists.
Carrie Biemer led Penn (0-3) with a game-high 18 points.
DU struggled from the floor in the first half, connecting on only 11-of-35 (.314) of their shots including 1-of-12 (.083) from 3-point range. Penn was equally as cold, making only 9-of-28 (.321) and 1-of-13 (.077) from beyond the arc. A pair of Rachel Frederick foul shots gave Duquesne their largest lead of the half, 16 points, at the 4:18 mark before the Quakers went on a 9-0 run to end the half, cutting the Dukes lead to seven points at 26-19.
Peck, who made only one field goal in the first half, heated up in the second half with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Penn got within four points (26-22) early in the second half before a Kelly Britcher 3-pointer sparked a 21-4 run to give DU a commanding 47-26 advantage with 11:27 remaining.
Duquesne took advantage of 15 Penn turnovers in the second half and converted them into 22 points as a Peck jumper closed out the scoring, giving the Dukes a 78-45 victory.
Britcher, who had scored only eight points this season going into today's game, recorded a season-best 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting. Alex Gensler and Rachel Frederick added 12 points each.
The Dukes will be heading to Vestal, N.Y. as they visit Binghamton Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Last season, Duquesne was a 10-point winner over the Bearcats 75-65.
