PITTSBURGH - Kate Popovec recorded a double-double of 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting and 12 rebounds as #24 Pitt won the 27th edition of the City Game over the Duquesne women's basketball team at the Palumbo Center, 66-47, on Wednesday night.

Keri Pryor led the Dukes with 18 points and Rachel Frederick recorded a season-high 12 rebounds.

The first half of the game was played very close with four lead changes and three ties. A pair of Frederick foul shots gave DU their largest lead of the half, four points, at 15-11 at the midway point of the half.

Back-to-back baskets by Shavonte Zealous and Popovec followed by a pair of Xenia Stewart foul shots gave the Panthers a 17-15 advantage. Kristi Little's jumper tied the score at 17-17 at the 6:33 mark.

Pitt would score five of the next six points to gain their largest lead of the half - five points - with 4:21 remaining. The Dukes would get within two points twice - first on a Samantha Thompson 3-pointer at 3:39 and on a Pryor jumper with 2:05 left in the half. A Zealous jumper in the final minute close out the first half scoring with the Panthers taking a 27-23 lead into halftime.

The teams exchanged baskets to open the second half before Pitt went on a 12-2 run to take a 42-27 lead with 12:04 remaining in the game. DU would get within 10 points with 10:50 left before Pitt went on a 12-4 run taking 56-38 lead at the 7:45 mark.

Popovec's layup with 1:37 remaining was the final basket of the evening giving the Panthers a 66-47 victory.

The 47 points was a season-low for the Dukes who also had their worst shooting game of the season going just 16-of-55 from the field for 29.1 percent.

The game was played at the same time as the Duquesne men's team fell to No. 3 Pitt 78-51 at the Petersen Events Center.

The Dukes travel to Morgantown to take on West Virginia Sunday. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
