PITTSBURGH - The backcourt tandem of Julijana Vojinovic and Chassidy Omogrosso combined for 38 points in Duquesne's 66-60 victory over Akron on Saturday evening. With the win, the Dukes (9-2) extended their winning streak to seven games.
Vojinovic added seven rebounds to her game-high 22 points. Eniko Kuttor pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds in the victory.
Akron (4-4) was led by Sarah Leyendecker and Shaunay Edmunds who scored 13 points each.
Duquesne held the advantage the entire 1st quarter, leading 20-13 after the first 10 minutes.
The Zips opened up the 2nd quarter on a 12-0 run to take a 24-20 lead. Duquesne would tie the contest at 26-26 before Edmonds scored the final four points of the half.
In the 3rd quarter there were five ties and three lead changes. Conor Richardson's layup with 43 seconds left put the Dukes ahead for good. The lead would get a high as 10 points with 1:14 remaining.
For the game, Duquesne outrebounded Akron 45-34 and had 22 points in the paint to the Zips' 18.
After an eight day break, Duquesne will face their third consecutive MAC opponent when Central Michigan comes to town. The game has a 2:30 tipoff and is the back half of a double-header with the men's team who faces North Carolina A&T at 12:30.
