PITTSBURGH - Kelly Britcher scored a season-high 16 points off the bench to lead the Duquesne women's basketball team to a 62-50 victory over Austin Peay on Thursday night at the Palumbo Center.

Samantha Pollino added 15 points and Wumi Agunbiade 12 for the Dukes who improve to 11-2 overall and 4-1 at home this season.

Whitney Hanley scored 16 for the two-time defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Lady Govs (4-11) and Jasmine Rayner pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.

Britcher hit 6-of-7 shots, Pollino 6-of-10 and Agunbiade 5-of-8 for DU, who shot a season-best 49 percent from the floor while holding APSU to just 29.5 percent.

Duquesne opened up an early 17-7 lead midway through the first half when Orsi Szecsi found Britcher for a driving layup. Austin Peay's Nicole Olszewski cut the lead to seven points on the next play with a 3-pointer, but Britcher answered with a 3-ball of her own. DU would keep the lead above 10 the rest of the half as a Britcher jumper with one second left in the half gave Duquesne its largest of the game - 20 points at 41-21 - heading into halftime.

The Lady Govs came out in the second half on a 9-2 run to make the score 43-30, cutting the lead to 13 points 14:14 to play. The Dukes would go back up by 17 points four more times during the game, the last after a pair of foul shots by Britcher to make the score 55-38 with 5:53 left.

APSU did not give up, and scored 10 of the next 13 points to get within 10 at 58-48 with 3:22 remaining, but the DU defense would only allow one more basket the rest of the way.

"Austin Peay never quit," said head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio. "They are a team that has been battle-tested and have played a tough non-conference schedule."

Up next for the Dukes will be a Jan. 2nd game at Ball State. Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m.
