Women's Basketball Hosts on Charlotte in Atlantic 10 Opener

ATLANTIC 10 SEASON OPENS: The Duquesne women's basketball team hosts Charlotte Jan. 12 at 7:00 p.m. as the Atlantic 10 opens conference play. Saturday afternoon, Saint Louis is at Fordham, La Salle is at Richmond, Rhode Island is at Massachusetts, Temple is at Dayton and Saint Joseph's is at St. Bonaventure. Tomorrow, Xavier is at George Washington.
DUQUESNE IN A-10 OPENERS: Overall, DU is 5-18 is A-10 openers. In last season's opener, Duquesne defeated St. Bonaventure 55-46 Jan. 9, 2007.
DUKES AND 49ers: Tonight marks the fourth game between Charlotte and Duquesne with the 49ers holding a 2-1 advantage. The teams first met Feb. 12, 2006, the 49ers inaugural Atlantic 10 season.
DUQUESNE LATELY: Coming off a 78-33 win against North Carolina Central Jan. 7 ... Kristi Little's double-double of a game-high 18 points and career-high 10 steals led Duquesne to their ninth victory of the season ... it was the second straight game the Dukes led wire-to-wire.
CHARLOTTE LATELY: Head coach Karen Aston is in her first year at Charlotte ... 9-7 record this season ... winners of eight of their past 10 games ... the duo of Danielle Burgin and Sabrina Gregory average 11.9 and 11.3 points per game respectively.
LITTLE THEIF: Little recorded 10 steals against NCCU which was the second most in school history behind the legendary Korie Hlede's 11 Jan. 25, 1995 ... the 10 steals was tied for the second most in Atlantic 10 history with six others, including Duquesne head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio who accomplished the feat three times with Penn State.
D-ING UP:Thirty-three was the fewest points the Dukes have allowed since began Division I play in 1983-84. The best defensive performance came Feb. 1, 1974 when the then "Duchesses" gave up 14 points to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
LOOKING AHEAD: After a road trip to Saint Louis Jan. 16, the Dukes return home to face a pair of Ohio teams. Dayton visits the Palumbo Center Jan. 19 followed by Xavier on Jan. 22.
BUCK NIGHTS: Tonight is the first of four "Buck Nights" at the Palumbo Center. Everything is $1, which includes a $1 game ticket, $1 hot dog and a $1 soft drink.
HIDDEN STAT: Besides Charlotte and North Carolina Central, the only other win Duquesne has against a school from North Carolina was a 62-60 win against East Carolina Nov. 19, 2005.
