Duquene Renews Agreement with Clear Channel
Sept. 12, 2013
PITTSBURGH - Director of athletics Greg Amodio announced today that Duquesne University and Clear Channel have renewed an agreement that will enable Dukes men's basketball games to continue to air on WPGB-FM 104.7 through the 2015-16 season.
The agreement builds on a three-year partnership with Clear Channel that began prior to the 2010-11 season.
Clear Channel will continue to air a 15-minute pregame and 30-minute postgame show for each men's basketball broadcast. In addition, 970 AM ESPN will air shows featuring head men's basketball coach Jim Ferry, head women's basketball coach Dan Burt and head football coach Jerry Schmitt.
All men's basketball games will stream on WPGB.com, the official home of Duquesne men's basketball. All coaches shows will stream live on Pittsburghsportshub.com, the official home of Duquesne Athletics.
Broadcasts may also be heard on hand-held devices through iHeartRadio, Clear Channel's all-in-one free digital radio platform.
"We are pleased to continue our partnership with Clear Channel," said Amodio. "Having WPGB-FM as our flagship station has allowed us to expand visibility for our men's basketball program throughout western Pennsylvania and beyond. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Clear Channel on both AM and FM platforms."
"Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Pittsburgh is thrilled to extend our partnership with Duquesne University for three more years," said Tim McAleer, Pittsburgh Market President for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. "As the local sports leader, having Duquesne University basketball on FM News Talk 104.7 enhances our sports portfolio."
This is the first time since 1997-98 through 1990-00 (WDUQ-FM 90.5) that Duquesne men's basketball has aired on the FM dial. The WPGB-FM signal thoroughly covers western Pennsylvania in addition to reaching into portions of eastern Ohio as well as the West Virginia panhandle.
Pittsburgh Clear Channel currently carries the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers (WDVE-FM 102.5) and the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins (WXDX-FM 105.9 FM).
