NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Duquesne women's basketball team under first-year head coach Dan Burt has been selected to finish third in the 13-team Atlantic 10 Conference. The poll of Atlantic 10 coaches and media was released today as part of the league's annual media day held at Richmond Coliseum.

Defending regular season champions Dayton was picked to finish in first place. The Flyers had 12 of the 13 first place votes for 168 points. Defending A-10 tournament champion Saint Joseph's was picked second (146/1) followed by the Dukes (136).

A-10 tournament runner-up Fordham was selected fourth, just one point behind Duquesne (135). George Washington was picked fifth (115), followed by Richmond (107), VCU (92), Saint Louis (72), St. Bonaventure (59), La Salle (58), George Mason (40), Massachusetts (29) and Rhode Island (26).

All 13 teams will qualify for the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship held March 5-9 at the Richmond Coliseum.

Duquesne will host Davis & Elkins in an exhibition game on Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. The regular season opens in Chicago vs. defending Big West champion Cal Poly on Nov. 8 as part of the Maggie Dixon Classic. The Dukes' home opener is Nov.17th against defending Horizon League champion Green Bay.
