WHO, WHAT AND WHERE: The Duquesne women’s basketball team makes their first road trip of the 2008-09 season when they visit Mount St. Mary’s Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in Emmitsburg, Md.

DUKES AND MOUNTAINEERS: Duquesne and Mount St. Mary’s have met three times in their history. The series began Jan. 26, 1984, an 81-54 MSM win at the Civic Arena. The second matchup was Dec. 4, 1996 in Emmitsburg, with The Mount winning 68-65. The last matchup between the two schools was Nov. 21, 1997 with the Dukes prevailing 72-63 behind 23 points from Korie Hlede.

DUQUESNE LATELY: Coming off home wins against Morehead State (83-57) and Cornell (93-49). Duquesne has not started out the season 3-0 since the 1998-99 season when they opened up 7-0. The last time the Dukes began a season 2-0 was in 2003-04. That was also the last time DU finished with a winning record as they went 16-13 and made it to the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship.

MOUNT ST. MARY’S LATELY: Defeated Colgate 80-39 in their only game this season. Mountaineers’ sophomore Leah Westbrooks scored a game-best 19 points.

AGAINST THE NORTHEAST CONFERENCE : Duquesne has done fairly well against teams from the Northeast Conference. The Dukes are 44-20 (.676) against Mount St. Mary’s (1-2), Robert Morris (25-12), Saint Francis (18-6) and Wagner (0-1).

MANAGING MARYLAND: Duquesne has faired quite well against teams from the “Free State”. Overall, the Dukes are 16-4 (.750) which includes victories over six different teams. The last time DU visited Maryland was Dec. 7, 2002 when Duquesne defeated Towson 41-38.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Dukes return home to the Palumbo Center on Saturday afternoon to take on Penn. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
