Women's Basketball Hosts Penn Saturday Afternoon

Nov. 21, 2008

Game Notes

WHO, WHAT AND WHERE: The Duquesne women's basketball team returns to the Palumbo Center Saturday afternoon when they host Penn for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.

DUKES AND QUAKERS: Duquesne and Penn have met one other time - Nov. 26, 1991. Tausha Williams scored 22 points and Darcie Vincent had seven rebounds as the Dukes defeated Quakers 87-78 at the Palumbo Center

DUQUESNE LATELY: Coming off home wins against Morehead State (83-57) and Cornell (93-49) and a road victory over Mount St. Mary's (66-59). Keri Pryor recorded 20 points and Alex Gensler scored all 14 of her points in the second half against The Mount. Duquesne has not started out the season 3-0 since the 1998-99 season when they opened up 7-0. The last time the Dukes began a season 2-0 was in 2003-04. That was also the last time DU finished with a winning record as they went 16-13 and made it to the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship.

PENN LATELY: Lost 45-43 to Villanova on Wednesday. Sarah Bucar and Carrie Biemer led the Quakers with 11 and 10 points respectively.

AGAINST THE IVY LEAGUE: Duquesne has faired well against teams from the Ivy League. DU is 7-1 overall and have been victorious over Cornell (three times), Harvard, Penn and Princeton (two times). The Dukes lone loss was to Princeton 12/22/06. The Dukes could be playing Brown on the second day of the Miami Holiday Tournament Dec. 30.

SHOW US SOME BROTHERLY LOVE: The Dukes have not had much luck against teams from Philadelphia going 25-80 (.238) all-time. Duquesne's win against La Salle last year stopped a 10-game losing streak against schools from Philadelphia.

LOOKING AHEAD: Duquesne will travel to Vestal, N.Y. to take on Binghamton on Nov. 25 before returning home Nov. 28 to host Niagara.
