PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne University Department of Athletics was informed by the NCAA on Friday afternoon that Vanessa Abel has been granted a sixth year of eligibility and will be in uniform for Saturday's game versus Pitt.

Abel, who transferred, but never played for West Virginia, played two full seasons (2010 and 2011) with the Dukes before being sidelined last season after playing just 15 games.

The 5-5 point guard averages 8.4 points per game and 3.9 assists per game in 80 career games. Since taking over the point guard position midway through the 2009-10 season, Abel led the Dukes to a 47-20 record. Abel earned her first-ever conference award when she was named A-10 Third-Team All-Conference in 2011. She finished the 2011 regular season first in the A-10 with 138 assists and fourth with 69 steals. Overall, she was 62nd in the nation with 2.5 steals per game and 57th with 4.8 assists per game. She was voted to the A-10 Second-Team Preseason All-Conference as well as to the All-Defensive team.

Duquesne (7-1) takes on Pitt (6-2) in the annual City Game this afternoon. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
