Lacrosse Opens Season With 18-4 Triumph Over Visiting Bucknell

Duquesne's lacrosse team opened the 2012 season on a good note with an 18-4 victory over visiting Bucknell Saturday afternoon on Rooney Field. Sophomore Caitlin Prince and freshmen Clare Hurley and Amanda Kidder each recorded hat tricks.

The Dukes jumped out to an impressive 7-0 lead, which included three goals by Kidder as DU took a 10-2 halftime lead. The Red and Blue opened the second half with the first four goals for a 14-2 advantage before cruising to the victory.

Also scoring multiple goals were Cailin Colegrove, Meredith Dunn and Morgan Matz with two each. Casey Denk, Haley Marafioti each had one goal. Elise Caldwell had three assists.

Defensively, Liz Walker made seven saves in goal and Casey Denk had three casused turnovers.

The Dukes return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 22 as they travel to nationally-ranked Penn State for a 7:00 pm contest.
