Lacrosse Opens 2014 Slate with Impressive 22-4 Win Over Howard

Duquesne's lacrosse team scored six goals in the opening four and a half minutes of its season opener versus Howard and cruised to a 22-4 victory over the Bison Wednesday afternoon on Rooney Field.
The Dukes scored its first goal of the season 57 seconds into its opener as Haley Marafioti scored unassisted to make it 1-0. Freshman Kaelin Shaw scored her first college goal 21 seconds later off an Amanda Kidder assist to go up 2-0.
After that, consecutive goals by Lib Lowry, Clare Hurley, Shaw, Kidder, Hurley, Marafioti, Kidder, Morgan Matz, Shaw with a hat trick, freshman Kaitlyn De Haven, Kidder with a hat trick, Marafioti with a hat trick, Kristen Newbrough and Matz with here second made it 16-0 before Howard scored a goal with 49 seconds left in the half for the intermission score.
A tranquil second half saw two more goals by Kidder, Tess Drotar's first college goal and a hat trick goal by Matz and the finisher by Charlotte Lampenfeld to end the day.
Senior Kristen Gregory earned the win, combining with Jenna Bishop to make five saves.
Taylor Denk had a game-high four ground balls while Kidder had a game-best four draw controls.
The Dukes will now prep for seventh-ranked Penn State which they play on Tuesday, Feb. 25th at 7:00 pm in State College.
