Dukes Hang Tough with Number Eight Penn State, 11-7

Duquesne's lacrosse team evened its record at 1-1 with an 11-7 loss at #8 Penn State Tuesday afternoon at University Park, Pa.
The Dukes trailed 2-0 early as PSU's Maggie McCormick scored twice in the first eight minutes to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 advantage. Amanda Kidder responded though, scoring two goals of her own in a six-minute span to know the contest at 2-2.
Mackenzie Cyr from Penn State would score the next two tallies to make it 4-2 before DU's Lib Lowry scored to cut the deficit to 4-3 at the 2:59 mark. PSU scored again a minute and a half later to make it 5-3, but Clare Hurley found the back of the net with 10 seconds left in the half to make it 5-4 at the intermission.
Hurley scored again 40 seconds into the second stanza to tie the contest at 5-5,then answered a Penn State goal five minutes in to make it 6-6. Kidder then got her third goal to give the Dukes a 7-6 lead with 23:42 remaining. PSU, however would score the final five goals of the game to take the win.
Kristen Gregory made 11 saves in goal for the Dukes. Haley Marafioti and Morgan Matz each had assists. Hurley and Melissa Hanson led DU with three ground balls each while Kidder led the way with three draw controls and five caused turnovers.
The Dukes return to action on Friday, March 7th as they travel to Marquette for a 1:00 pm game.
