March 2, 2013
Duquesne's lacrosse team jumped out to an early 4-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest, but couldn't hold on as No.9 Notre Dame recovered for a 10-8 victory Saturday afternoon at Rooney Field.
The Dukes jumped out to an 4-0 advantage a little over three minutes into the contest as Caitlin Prince opened the game's scoring 44 seconds in, followed by goals by Haley Marafioti, Clare Hurley and Prince again to force an early Notre Dame timeout.
After the TO, the Irish regrouped to score eight of the next nine goals, carrying over into the second half to take an 8-5 advantage with 18 minutes left in the contest.
At that point Meredith Dunn and Amanda Kidder scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 8-7 with 15:10 left before Notre Dame team captain Margaret Smith scored back-to-back goals in the waning minutes to put the decision out of reach.
The Red and Blue return to action on Thursday, March 7 as the Dukes face Stony Brook in Downingtown, Pa. at 3:00 pm.
