Moraga, California - Duquesne's women's lacrosse team grabbed their second California victory Wednesday afternoon with an 11-7 win at Saint Mary's Stadium. The Dukes' Kelly Mulford scored three goals and Ginger Flocco, Laura App and Becca West added two goals each. Lauren Mincher tallied a goal and four assists in the contest.

The Dukes improved to 2-1 while St. Mary's is now 1-3 overall.

The Gaels' Thera Luce scored 25 seconds into the game and Colette Spencer scored her first of three goals at the 7:38 mark to give SMC a 2-0 advantage. Duquesne answered with the next three goals by West, Mincher and App to take a 3-2 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the first half. After SMC's Ally High scored at the 18:36 mark, Flocco and Mulford added goals to give the Dukes a 5-3 lead at halftime.

Carrie Watkins' tally extended the lead back to 6-4. Spencer and Luce added goals for Saint Mary's to knot the score at 6-6 with 23 minutes left in the game. Duquesne did not let go of the lead, with West, App and Mulford scoring three straight goals to open a 9-6 lead at the 47:08 mark. Spencer scored her third goal at the 53:21 minute mark, but goals by Duquesne's App and Mulford in the next five minutes put the game out of reach.

Duquesne goalie Sarah Pacini earned the win as she grabbed six saves while facing 21 shots by Saint Mary's.

Colette Spencer, with her third hat trick of the season, paced the Gaels with three goals. Megan Ceccotti, who played in the second half only, took the loss for Saint Mary's. Ceccotti tallied just one save while allowing six goals.

 

 

With this win, Duquesne concludes the California portion of the schedule. The Red and Blue return to Pittsburgh and will host Northwestern on Monday, March 10th at noon. This is a new time since the game has been moved to Mount Lebanon High School. For directions, etc., please click here.
