DU Grabs 10-9 Overtime Victory Over American

Orlando, Fla. - Duquesne University' women's lacrosse team scored the only goal in overtime to defeat American University, 10-9, on Monday at the Disney Wide World Of Sports Complex and even their 2004 record to 2-2.

Two juniors, Ginger Flocco and Laura App, led the Dukes. Flocco scored four goals on four shots and had three assists along with six drawn charges, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. App added two goals and three assists.

The Dukes opened up the game on a tear, scoring the first five goals before the Eagles (0-4) tallied three straight. Another goal before the break gave DU a 6-3 halftime lead.

Duquesne had a 9-5 edge with just over 10 minutes remaining only to see AU score four straight including the game-tier with 56 seconds left. The Dukes scored just 24 seconds into the first of two three-minute overtime sessions for the win.

The Red and Blue conclude this week's spring training schedule on Thursday, March 11, 2004 against Mount St. Mary's (2-1).
