Duquesne University's women's lacrosse team defeated reigning Atlantic 10 champion Temple, 18-5 in Philadelphia in the Dukes' A-10 opener. The victory snapped a 19-game Atlantic 10 winning streak for the Owls and also marks the first win over Temple for the Dukes. The teams have met 11 times beginning in 1998, four of which have been in the A-10 Tournament. The closest the Dukes had gotten to a victory prior to today's game was a 10-9 sudden-victory loss in the 2001 A-10 title game.

Kelly Mulford led the Red and Blue with five goals, followed by Meredith Williams with four goals and Ginger Flocco with three goals.

Laura App added two scores and led the game with two assists while Sarah Pacini racked up 13 saves on the day in front of the cage.

The Dukes opened the game strong grabbing a 3-0 lead in less than four minutes as Caroline Gallagher, Meredith Williams and Mulford each found the back of the cage. Duquesne went on to hold an 8-0 edge before Temple got on the board with an unassisted score at the 12:54 mark. The Red & Blue held a 12-3 edge at the break led by Flocco's three scores and two goals each from Mulford and Williams.

Duquesne extended its lead to a 17-3 advantage in the second half before allowing an Owls' goal wtih 8:25 ticking. The host would get past Pacini just one other time with 7:04 ticking as the Dukes went on to take the 18-5 edge.

The Dukes return to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 21 as they travel to Monmouth for a noon contest.
