Red and Blue Down Monmouth, 18-13

The Duquesne University lacrosse team won its fifth straight game and improved to 6-2 on the season with an 18-13 victory at Monmouth.
Ginger Flocco had a big day for the Dukes, scoring a personal-best six goals and assisting on five others. Her five assists ties the University's single-game mark while her 11 points sets a new DU single-game record.
Flocco commenced the scoring on the afternoon when she tallied an unassisted goal 40 seconds into the contest. Monmouth's Stacy Sydlo answered with her first of four goals on the afternoon to tie the score at 1-1 with 1:11 expired from the clock. The squads exchanged goals as Kelly Mulford scored on a free position shot at 27:21 and Jennie Versaggi scored on an assist from Katie Degen with 25:51 on the clock to knot the score at 2-2.
Monmouth (2-2) took its lone lead of the game at 3-2in the sixth minute of play. Duquesne
responded with an equalizer four minutes later as Courtney Tamasitis found the cage 10 minutes into the game and Flocco put the Dukes up 4-3 on unassisted goal. Duquesne would eventually take a 6-4 lead with 10:11 remaining in the half as Laura App and Mulford sandwiched goals around a free position goal by Monmouth's Hanna. Monmouth tied the game at 6-6 with just under six minutes remaining until the intermission. Duquesne took control of the contest as it logged four goals in the final five minutes of the first half. Flocco started the flurry as she scored on an assist from App. App assisted Mulford on the second goal. The final two goals during the surge were assisted by Flocco as she set up Jennifer Lorenze with 4:00 showing on the clock and Caroline Gallagher with just under three minutes left and the Dukes went into the locker room with a 10-6 advantage.
The Hawks outscored Duquesne 5-2 to start the second half and closed the gap to 12-11, but the Dukes outscored the Blue and White 6-2 down the stretch, including a pair of goals from Flocco.
Mulford and Tamsitis each scored three goals. Lorenze added two goals and one assist and Gallagher had two goals.
Sydlo led Monmouth with four goals. Raveia had three goals and Evangelisti chipped in with a pair of tallies.
The Red and Blue return to action on Friday, March 26 as they travel to St. Bonaventure for a 3:30 pm contest.
