Dukes Comeback Falls Short to St. Bonaventure

Duquesne (4-4, 1-2) suffered a 14-12 Atlantic 10 loss to visiting St. Bonaventure (3-0, 1-0) Wednesday afternoon on Rooney Field. Kelly Mulford led the game with five goals, four of which were unassisted. Ginger Flocco added three goals and Becca West two in the loss.
The Dukes trailed 3-8 at the half, but battled hard to overcome a 7-13 deficit rattling off four goals over a three-minute span to get within an 11-13 reach with 6:57 remaining. Duquesne's defense fought hard vs. the Bonnies, but was called for five fouls in the final minutes denying possession and the comeback.
The game open evenly with the teams trading goals as the game saw a 2-2 tie at 23:10. St. Bonaventure then hit back-to-back goals in the 22nd minute to take a 4-2 edge. The Dukes got within a 3-4 reach on Mulford's goal at 12:07, but would not find the back of the cage again in the frame. The Bonnies grabbed a 7-3 edge at 6:39 and hit their final score of the frame at 1:16 for the 8-3 lead at the break.
Flocco scored first and fast in the second half with a unassisted goal at 29:20, but the Bonnies answered with goals at 28:53 and 28:36 for a 10-4 advantage. SBU upped its lead to 13-4 scoring in the 26th, 25th and 11th minutes before Flocco sparked a 4-0 scoring drive at 9:25. Mulford netted goals at 8:52 and 8:14 from Laura App before West capped the spree with an unassisted goal at 6:57 for an 11-13 reach. The Bonnies hit the back of the cage at 1:38 for a 14-11 edge and Mulford ended the game's scoring with an unassisted goal at 1:07.
Laura Spaulding led St. Bonaventure with four goals while Kelly Chevez added three scores and a game-high five assists.
Duquesne next hosts Davidson on Saturday, March 29, in a 12:00 pm non-conference bout.
