Lacrosse Falls to Richmond in Overtime 14-13

RICHMOND - Mandy Friend's goal 1:28 into the second overtime lifted Richmond to a 14-13 overtime victory over the Duquesne lacrosse team Sunday afternoon at First Market Stadium.
The Dukes fall to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Richmond, who lost their first nine matches of the season, improves to 2-9 and 2-0 in A-10 play.
Meghan Frederick recorded a career-high with eight points on four goals and four assists. Ashley Wood scored four times, Katie Rekart added three goals and Sarah Cates scored twice for DU who dropped their third match in a row.
Duquesne spotted Richmond a goal early on before jumping out to a 3-1 lead at the 25:19 mark.
The Spiders would tie the contest twice in the first half before Cates would give DU a 6-4 advantage at 11:56. Wood added a goal three minutes later to close out the first half scoring with the Dukes taking a 7-5 lead into halftime.
A Friend goal 36 seconds into the second half cut the Dukes' lead to one goal, but Cates, Frederick and Rekart scored three consecutive times for DU, giving them their largest lead of the game at 10-6 with 24:35 to play.
UR answered with four straight goals over the next seven minutes to tie the contest at 10-10 at the 12:55 mark.
Goals by Rekart, Frederick and Wood gave Duquesne a three goal advantage with 5:58 remaining in regulation.
Caitlin Fifield trimmed the Dukes lead to two goals 51 seconds later.
Richmond would scored twice inside the final minute of regulation, netting goals from Sam Tajirian and Anne Ryan 12 seconds apart, the later coming with 22 seconds left to tie the match and send it into overtime tied at 13-13.
The Spiders controlled the tempo in the first extra frame, but a last second shot by Friend hit the post as the teams remained deadlocked at 13-13 at the end of the first overtime.
The Spiders took the draw at the start of the second overtimes and 88 seconds later, Friend found the back of the net to put the home team up 14-13. UR won the ensuing draw and ran out the clock.
The Dukes return home to host La Salle on April 3rd and Saint Joseph's on April 5th. .
