PHILADELPHIA - A pair of late Temple goals held off a second half Duquesne surge as the Owls handed Duquesne a 12-9 loss in their Atlantic 10 Conference opener Sunday afternoon.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first five minutes of the match, Kat McNish got the Dukes on the board with an unassisted goal at the 24:31 mark.

Down 5-1, DU came back with four consecutive goals from Sarah Cates, Sarah Carson, Shannon Hadaway and Ashley Wood to tie the score at 5-5 with 7:56 remaining in the first half.

Temple regained the lead 1:22 later on Berkley Summerlin's goal and took a 7-5 lead into halftime after a late goal from Chelsea Rosiek with 14 seconds left.

The Owls scored three of the first four goals of the second half, including two by Nicole Caniglia which game her five for the match, to open up a 10-6 lead with 23:18 remaining in the match. Goals by Hadaway, Janna Faulkner and Meghan Frederick got the Dukes within one goal at 10-9 with 5:12 left.

A pair of Whitney Richards goals closed out the scoring as Temple held the Dukes scoreless the rest of the way as the Owls took the conference opener 12-9.

Duquesne will open its home schedule this weekend with a pair of matches against George Washington on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Richmond on Sunday at noon.
