Dukes Lose Heart-Breaker in A-10 Opener at La Salle

Duquesne's lacrosse team lost its Atlantic 10 opener at La Salle, 12-11 in overtime Friday evening.

The Dukes led 6-5 at the half and stretched their lead to 9-5 with 22:05 remaining in the contest, before La Salle rattled off five straight goals to take a 10-9 advantage with 40 seconds remaining.

Haley Marafioti however, scored her game-high fourth goal of the game with 11 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

In the extra period, Clare Hurley scored a goal off an Amanda Kidder assist to give the Dukes the lead with 5:08 remaining. The Explorers however scored with 1:31 left to tie the game and secured the win with a goal with 0:38 left on the overtime clock for the win.

Caitlin Prince scored three goals to assist the Dukes while Kidder tallied two scores.

Liz Walker made a season-high 13 saves in goal.

The Red and Blue return to action on Sunday, as they face Temple at 1:00 pm.
