Dukes Defeat Ohio 13-8

Duquesne (6-4) defeated visiting Ohio (3-5) 13-8 in a non-conference match-up Tuesday night on Rooney Field. Ginger Flocco (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) led the game with five goals, which included two free position scores. Laura App (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Council) added three unassisted goals in the win. Becca West (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) had a game-best two assists. Sarah Pacini (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) went the distance in goal recording 13 saves on 21 shots.
Lindsey Hard led the Bobcats with three goals while Lynz Keys added two scores.
Ohio scored first on an unassisted goal by Keys at 29:36 before Christi Madden hit an unassisted score to put the Dukes on the board at 26:47 and spark a four-goal barrage. Goals followed from Flocco (16:48), App (15:22) and Mulford (9:59) giving the Dukes a 4-1 edge. Ohio found the back of the cage at the 7:26 mark, but Flocco scored a free position goal at 3:20 to up Duquesne's lead to a 5-2 edge at the break.
Flocco opened the second half netting an unassisted score at 27:36, followed by Hart's goal at 26:56 for Ohio making it a 6-3 contest. Three Duquesne goals were racked-up afterward over an eight-minute span as Flocco, Mulford and Madden each scored giving the Red & Blue a 9-3 edge with 18:40 remaining. Ohio called a time-out, re-grouped and hit three quick goals at 17:54, 17:29 and 16:24 to inch within a 9-6 reach. The Dukes followed suit with goal by App (10:51 & 9:05) and Flocco (10:29), extending their advantage to a 12-6 margin. OU would score in the 7th and 1st minute for a 12-8 reach before Katie Hohn closed out the game's scoring with a goal at :19 for the 13-8 victory.
Duquesne closes out a five-game home stand this Saturday hosting Bucknell in a 12:00 pm, non-conference tilt.
